Almost all the food we buy is packaged in some way or other. The prime purpose of packaging is to protect and preserve the food.
Another purpose of packaging is to convey information about the contents within the packaging. Making packaging of the "right" size reduces waste. Making it stackable simplifies transport and storage in the shop.
